At the top of the vertical dive
Hype opened at Särkänniemi in 2017 as Scandinavia's first triple-launch rollercoaster, and is a Sky Rocket II model coaster from Premier Rides.
The red track towers high from its location in the middle of the amusement park's Hype Square area, and the screams of its riders can be heard regularly as its train is launched out of the ride's grey metal warehouse building.
Initially, the launch propels the train part way up the first section of vertical track, before it rolls back into the second (now backwards) launch, twisting upwards to the ride's midsection. Gravity takes over again, the train moving forwards this time and into the third and most punchy launch, which sends it all the way up the vertical climb, through a corkscrew at the track's highest point, and into a headfirst dive that leads to a vertical loop and a return to the station.
Unlike some other Sky Rocket installations, Hype has been given lapbar restraints rather than the extremely uncomfortable "comfort collars". This means the whole ride experience is considerably more pleasant, which considering the powerful launches and at times intense forces and crazy ejector airtime, is very welcome.
Hype is a great rollercoaster for Särkänniemi, with the coaster's unusually shaped track attracting attention from all around the park, and its smooth and powerful ride experience providing some excellent thrills for those who brave a ride on it.
