Motorsports fans will likely find themselves gravitating toward MotoGee, the motorbike rollercoaster at Särkänniemi.
Unlike traditional sit down coasters, the ride features a 12 seater train with pairs of riders next to each other straddling motorcycle style seats in a racing position.
Rides begin with the train moving out of the station onto a launch track. Above riders' heads they see the familiar starting lights typically found on race tracks. Initially red, they turn green as the train is accelerated to 68 kilometers per hour in two seconds via a flywheel launch mechanism up to the highest point of the track.
The bikes and their riders speed around the circuit, a compact layout featuring various banked corners and sloping downward sections. Although the layout looks fairly tame, the straddle seating position puts riders' centre of gravity much higher than normal making them feel more exposed and subjected to much heightened forces, leading to an exciting ride.
MotoGee is a fun ride, with a nice launch and an enjoyable layout, made better by the overall motorbike concept. While the seats and restraints can be a little uncomfortable, the rollercoaster is short enough for this not to be a problem, and its position on the edge of the park makes for some great views over the lake as it flashes past.
