Alpina Blitz
Set within the theme park's snowy Swiss Alps themed section, Alpina Blitz is one of the headlining attractions at Nigloland in France.
The ride is a Mega Coaster from Mack Rides, a rollercoaster model which shares much in common with Intamin's Mega Lite Coasters, albeit with Mack's supremely comfortable Blue Fire style trains.
It sits within a small footprint and, while the length is short, Alpina Blitz packs a massive amount of great features into its layout. The steep first drop straight into a ground hugging 270 degree turn is insane, and the ride just gets better from there with a mix of wonderful airtime filled hills and moments of positive Gs that push riders down hard into their seats.
Towards the end of the ride are a sequence of bunny hops, the first half of which twist from side to side similar to those on the incredible Piraten at Djurs Sommerland. While not quite as good as those of their Danish cousin, they are brilliant and form a fantastic finale for the rollercoaster.
Alpina Blitz opened at Nigloland in 2014, not that you'd realise it. It may be over a decade since it was constructed, but Alpina Blitz rides like a brand new coaster. The park has worked wonders on the theming front too, which all looks fresh and immaculately kept.
Nigloland in general is an amazing theme park, and Alpina Blitz is one its jewels in the crown. It looks superb and rides even better: it's the kind of coaster that is very hard to not fall in love with and demands to be re-ridden over and over again.
