Gold Rush at OK Corral is a rollercoaster which succeeds in being both a full circuit and shuttle coaster at the same time.
Its train begins by reversing out of the station and is pulled up to the top of a hill, similar to a Boomerang coaster. Once released, it travels forwards through the circuit, which is a big oval of track with an added helix and hill to allow it to cross over itself.
The train crawls up a slope at the end of the loop, around a top section of track to return to the hill it started on, then back through the track again. This time it doesn't quite make it to the top of the slope at the end, instead falling backwards to complete the track in reverse.
Despite officially being a family ride, the coaster has some surprising airtime and forces, including a lateral shunt that shoves riders sideways near the bottom of the final hill ... which is even more surprising (and a little uncomfortable) when tackled backwards!
The level of theming is fantastic, both in terms of the detailing on the mine train themed ride vehicle itself and of the station, queueline and surrounding area. There's enough props and gold mine related paraphernalia dotted around to make you feel right in the middle of the wild west.
Gold Rush is a great family coaster, with OK Corral going beyond the expected to create a unique ride experience complemented by a great level of theming and attention to detail. It feels like the perfect rollercoaster for the park.
