Badewannen-Fahrt zum Jungbrunnen ("Bathtub Ride to the Fountain of Youth") is Tripsdrill's superbly themed log flume ride.
Rather than the ubiquitous giant log themed boats, Badewannen-Fahrt zum Jungbrunnen's riders sit inside large bathtubs for their journey around the ride.
Their trip begins as with many log flumes, with the water channel weaving around past various bushes and shrubbery. Following a small drop the boats enter a tunnel that leads to a dark ride style section. Eventually riders encounter the Fountain of Youth, surrounded by a number of life size models of people enjoying the waters ... including several naked women with everything on display!
Leaving the various states of déshabillé behind, a lift hill takes the bath tubs to a turntable and trick door which ends up with the baths plunging backwards down a drop, ensuring the shy riders at the back of the boat hoping to avoid getting wet are instead awarded with a soaking wet back.
A second turntable sets the boat off forward again and up the ride's main lift hill. The tub floats around and enters the top of the medieval themed Rauhe Klinge castle which the log flume shares with the park's G'Sengte Sau rollercoaster.
The views from the top are short lived, however, as the bathtub races down the main drop - the highest in Europe apparently - and splashes down into the lake below. With riders assessing just how drenched they've got, the bath floats back around a corner to deliver the passengers back into the station. A final surprise awaits them there, with another full size model of a semi-clothed wrinkly old lady in her bathing suit greeting them as they disembark: perhaps the fountain of youth has run out of juice!
Badewannen-Fahrt zum Jungbrunnen stands out amongst the countless log flumes at theme parks across the world, both due to its unusual and deliciously risqué theming that many parks would not get away with, and also for its superb backward and main drops. It is a must-do ride at Tripsdrill which should have riders enjoying both their slightly ridiculous ride in their giant bathtub, and the ensuing first-hand experience of the waters from the fountain of youth.
