A play area set in the trees
Avonturenpark Hellendoorn is a family amusement park set deep in the woodland beside the Netherlands town of Hellendoorn.
The park caters mainly toward young families, with a mixture of over thirty attractions including rollercoasters, water rides and entertainment. It has won awards and is rated amongst the best amusement parks in the Netherlands.
Hellendoorn was born in 1936 with the opening of a tea house on the site, to which playground equipment was added to attract more visitors. Over the years the attraction grew, and it became known as Avonturenpark Hellendoorn in 1978.
Today the park features three rollercoasters including an indoor sewer rat themed coaster and a classic Vekoma corkscrew ride. Other attractions of note include a log flume, rapids ride, monorail, and the Discovery Club interactive dark ride.
Although quite small, Avonturenpark Hellendoorn contains enough to entertain for a relaxing half day adventure. The park itself is pleasant with a relaxed atmosphere, and the forest setting lends itself to some lovely shady spots in the woodland.
