Alton Manor towers over Gloomy Wood

Gloomy Wood is a small area at Alton Towers, full of ghosts, ghouls and spooky frights and home to Alton Manor.

The only ride in the area is The Curse at Alton Manor, although the surrounding woods make a the perfect backdrop for the haunted house.

Attic of Antiquities acts as the exit to the ride, and is a shop featuring a range of horror themed souvenirs together with sweets, drinks and snacks.

Also in the centre of Gloomy Wood is Coach House Confectionary which offers an assortment of ice creams alongside milkshakes, cakes and hot drinks.

A shortcut from Gloomy Wood to Mutiny Bay is available for guests brave enough to walk through the Haunted Hollow, which saves a long walk through Katanga Canyon.

The Duel Era (2003-2022)

During the time that Duel: The Haunted House Strikes Back was at the park, Gloomy Wood was dominated by the large Duel ride sign and the zombie crypt outside the ride. With the opening of The Curse of Alton Manor in 2023, the area lost all the zombie related theming.
