Board the legendary pirate ship, The Mutiny, but beware the haunting sounds of the Siren leading unsuspecting sailors into the mouth of the monsterous Kraken itself...
|Theme Park||Alton Towers|
|Park Area||Mutiny Bay|
|Audience||Older Families and Thrillseekeers|
|Debuted||2019 (replaced The Welcoming: Be Chosen)|
|Location||Mutiny Bay Courtyard|
Darkest Depths tells the story of The Mutiny which has laid anchor at Mutiny Bay, and guests are invited to climb aboard to find out more about the legendary ghost ship and its pirate crew. Be warned though, avoid the Sirens or you may become embroiled in a seafaring adventure leading to a face to face encounter with the Kraken.
The attraction is one of two new scare mazes at Scarefest 2019, the other being The Attic: Terror of the Towers. Whilst The Attic is strictly for thrillseekers, Darkest Depths is pitched more towards older families - although it is definitely not suitable for the younger age group that would have happily visited House of Monsters in previous years.
With extraordinarily detailed theming throughout, Darkest Depths is one of the most immersive and impressive of Alton's scare attractions. Whilst southern cousin Thorpe Park is still getting by with plywood corridors and chainsaws in their latest Creek Freak Massacre offering, Alton is placing their guests into the heart of a sinking stench-ridden pirate ship with low hanging beams, water pouring through the walls and a huge tenticle weilding Kraken monster. This, along with an amazing cast of pirates and sirens, makes Darkest Depths unmissable - and well worth repeated visits to appreciate the intricate details that you are sure to miss the first time through. In fact, the maze proved so popular that it was kept open for the 2019 Fireworks event too.
