Toadie’s Crazy Cars gave children the chance to drive their own old-fashioned car through scenes inspired by the Wind in the Willows book.
The ride was a Zamperla Convoy Ride, and was one of the original Chessington World of Adventures attractions having opened in 1987. In those days it was known as Old Crocks Rally, and was themed around an antique car race along quiet countryside lanes. Sponsored by the AA, there were some lovely details to see along the way such as breakdowns and even an unfortunate competitor’s car which had somehow ended up in a pond.
Old Crocks Rally was rethemed as Toadie’s Crazy Cars in 2001, with new scenes and models featuring characters from the Wind in the Willows being installed. The route was shortened in 2003 to make room for Land of the Dragons and Dragon’s Fury. Arguably, the ride wasn’t quite the same or as good as in the Old Crocks Rally days.
The Toadie’s Crazy Cars theme was retired at the end of the 2019 season, with the ride receiving a substantial overhaul and the route again being modified as it became Jungle Rangers as part of 2020’s new Rainforest area.
