Originally serving as a landing stage for passenger boats and goods ships, Clacton Pier opened in 1871 as part of the fashionable new seaside resort of Clacton-on-Sea.
The pier was lengthened, entertainments and a Pavilion were added to it in 1893.
Today's pier features a variety of rides, games and other attractions found on typical pleasure piers. The big highlight is Stella's Revenge, a steel rollercoaster built in 2011. It is named after Steel Stella, the pier's major rollercoaster built in 1937 that was sadly destroyed in a fire in 1973.
