Accelerating from 0-60mph in just 2.8 seconds, Velocity is Flamingo Land's launched motorbike coaster which was added to the park in 2005.
The rollercoaster was the second of Vekoma's Motorbike Coaster models to be built, and the first (and, as of 2020, only) one of its kind in the UK.
Riders sit on motorcycle themed seats in something akin to a bike riding position, with a back restraint to ensure they remain secure.
After leaving the station, the train makes its way slowly to the launch track. From here, the hydraulic launch mechanism accelerates the train from a standing start to its maximum speed of 60mph in a little under 3 seconds. At the end of the launch, the train flies over a hill and enters a huge double figure of eight helix, with riders experiencing some nice sustained positive G-force. The helix turns the train around for the return trip back to the station, over two airtime filled bunny hops into the final brakes.
While the riding position is quite unnatural and can be a little uncomfortable if the back restraint is too tight, Velocity is still bags of fun. It's exciting both due to its uniqueness, and also the great helix element in the middle of the ride which fans of positive Gs should love.
