At the heart of Legoland lies Miniland, an extensive area featuring famous buildings and landmarks recreated in miniature using millions of Lego bricks.
There are large sections devoted to the UK, various European countries, and sights from around the world. Alongside a mini River Thames surrounded by London landmarks, visitors can see the Eiffel Tower, Amsterdam's canals, Leuven's Town Hall, the Taj Mahal and the White House, all within a few steps walk of each other.
It's the kind of place that you could spend hours in, looking at all the intricate details, surprises and little jokes that the Lego modellers have added. If you look carefully you might spot sheep invading a local cricket match, the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet playing out, or diners sitting in the sun outside a Parisian cafe. For many years there was even a streaker running across the pitch at Wembley Stadium! Things are constantly changing in Miniland, and there'll be topical models or funny additions to see every time you visit.
Miniland has plenty of life and movement too, with trains running between scenes, cars and lorries driving along the roads, a cable car travelling up a mountainside, and boats floating past. There's even the chance to witness a space shuttle launch over at the Kennedy Space Center. One of the weirder but not uncommon sights are the real life ducks who have taken to swimming in the various ponds and waterways, looking monster-sized next to the miniature buildings and people.
In 2018, Miniland saw a large expansion with the addition of new Miniland USA and Explore the World areas. Explore the World showcases buildings from India, Australia, China and Russia, while Miniland USA brings iconic landmarks from across America to Windsor for the first time.
