Nestled beneath the spectacular white splendour of St Leonard's Mansion at the top of the hill at Legoland Windsor, Minifigure Speedway is the theme park's new rollercoaster for the 2024 season.
The ride takes a car race between two competing teams of Lego minifigs as its theme, with riders being allocated to either Team Legends or Team Allstars.
The rollercoaster is a racing coaster, meaning each team's train runs on a different track (either red or blue), both intertwining throughout the layout. But that's only half of the ride: after completing the race forwards, both trains take to their tracks for a second time, but in reverse.
Being located on the Windsor hillside is a definite advantage, with the first drop descending over the edge of the hill to great effect. There's a few good examples of duelling action between the two trains too, although these are more often with the trains passing each other from opposite directions rather than much side-by-side racing which seems a slightly missed opportunity, especially considering the ride's theme.
While the experience is not white knuckle, there's some decent drops and a few moments of moderately intense forces which, combined with the backwards run, makes Minifigure Speedway the most thrilling of the coasters at Legoland Windsor. It is aimed at older children and families within Legoland's main target market, and is at the opposite end of the thrill scale to Duplo Dino Coaster which sits just below it. It is though a great family ride which should be enjoyed by parents and older/braver children alike.
