Megafobia towers over Oakwood's lake
Oakwood is the largest theme park in Wales which, given the number of parks in the country, might not ordinarily be much of a claim. It could have been easily made by a park with a few dozen fairground rides, if it were not for the ambition of the McNamara family who were the park's original owners.
Looking to diversify their Pembrokeshire farming business in the face of EU milk quotas in the 1980s, they conceived the idea of creating a leisure attraction. Over the next few years they developed Oakwood into a theme park, adding several major rides including Megafobia, the world class wooden rollercoaster from Custom Coasters International; and Hydro (now known as Drenched), a huge water ride.
Other attractions at the park include Speed: No Limits, the UK's first Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter; Treetops, a family rollercoaster made all the more thrilling by its near-misses with the surrounding woodland; and Bounce, a combination shot and drop tower.
