Sincan Luna Park

Most of Turkey’s amusement parks, however small, are clean, well-presented and obviously cared for. Unfortunately in its slightly dishevelled and rundown state, Sincan Luna Park stands out from the crowd.

It sits within the much more pleasant Harikalar Diyari (Wonderland), the largest park in Ankara and indeed one of the largest in Western Asia. Along with the Luna Park, Wonderland features cafes, a go kart track, wedding palace, amphitheatre and tennis courts set within 320 acres of gardens and lakes.

The amusement park is situated on a patch of concrete in Harikalar Diyari’s southwestern corner. Alongside two kiddie coasters it features a small log flume, big wheel, haunted house and a number of flat rides. Apart from the newest rides, everything feels a bit sun-baked and faded.

The haunted house is mainly bare inside, relying on darkness rather than scenery or props to provide much in the way of entertainment. Scarier were the toilets – definitely the kind of facility where you feel cleaner if you skip washing your hands on the way out!

Dragon, the park’s Zamperla powered coaster, provides the only real highlight – the power has been turned up high, making for a fast and forceful ride. Other than that, there’s not much to keep you wanting to stay for any length of time.
