Afterburn
Afterburn is Carowinds' B&M Inverted Coaster.
The ride was originally known as Top Gun: The Jet Coaster after the famous Tom Cruise movie. Although references to the film were removed in 2006 after Cedar Fair purchased Carowinds, the ride station still has an aircraft hangar theme and there is a model F14 Tomcat fighter plane on show.
The rollercoaster has a custom layout featuring six inversions including a batwing, immelmann loop, vertical loop and zero-G roll. It gives a decent impression of a fighter jet flight, even if you wouldn't usually find jets flying through tunnels beneath the ground!
B&M Inverted Coasters invariably give a good ride, and Afterburn is great too. The custom layout and theming elevate it above some other of the more generic Inverted Coaster examples, and makes it into an intense fun experience amongst Carowinds' large coaster collection.
