The Legend's first drop
Following on from the success of The Raven, The Legend was the second wooden rollercoaster to be built at Holiday World.
The ride is based around The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, the short story by Washington Irving. Riders on board the coaster's Philadelphia Toboggan Company trains experience being chased through the woodland by the Headless Horseman.
The Legend is more exposed than The Raven, which spends much of its time within the trees. Instead, The Legend's track takes the trains out along the edge of the woods towards Splashing Safari, where they weave between the waterslides. The ride's first drop is great, dropping 113 feet down as it turns to the left and enters the first of five tunnels. Along the journey, there are also multiple airtime hills, drops and a brilliant double helix.
Although not quite reaching the number one spot like The Raven, The Legend ranked within the Golden Ticket Awards' Top 10 wooden rollercoasters from 2000 to 2006, and still continues to feature highly. It is world class and perhaps slightly more thrilling than The Raven. It's a good step up on the journey towards The Voyage, Holiday World's largest wooden coaster.
