Crashing through the billboard
Backlot Stunt Coaster takes riders into the heart of the movies as they find themselves in the middle of a thrilling action scene being filmed at Kings Dominion.
The rollercoaster is one of three similar Premier Rides launch coasters built at Cedar Fair parks, the others being at Kings Island and Canada's Wonderland.
Riders sit in Mini Cooper themed cars - the coaster was originally themed around The Italian Job (2003) movie when the parks were owned by Paramount - which are accelerated out of the station at 40mph using Linear Induction Motors (LIMs).
From here, they join in with the movie stunt scene as the train passes through various sets and special effects including a police chase, gun-firing helicopter and a large gas tank explosion. The climax of the ride features the cars accelerating along a second launch and smashing through a billboard.
While the actual rollercoaster itself may not be the most spectacular in the world (although there are a few intense moments), the special effects really make Backlot Stunt Coaster into a much better ride. As long as the effects are working, its a decent fun little rollercoaster!
