Pacific Wheel is the observation wheel at Santa Monica Pier's Pacific Park and is the world's only solar powered ferris wheel.
Standing 40 metres tall, the wheel allows riders to look out over the rest of the pier, Santa Monica Bay and out to the Pacific Ocean beyond.
It was designed by Chance Morgan Rides and erected in 2008 at a cost of $1.5 million. It is powered by solar panels installed on the roof of the neighbouring building which generate up to 71,000 kilowatt hours of power.
Each evening, Pacific Wheel is lit up by an animated light show created from over 160,000 LEDs mounted over its surface.
