The perfect way to cool off on a hot summer's day, Shipwreck Falls is Six Flags America's shoot-the-chutes water ride.
Riders board one of the red twenty-seater boats in the Shipwreck Falls station, which is sited in the Chesapeake area of the park.
Boats exit the station and almost immediately begin their journey up the chain lift hill. At the top they navigate around a 180° turn, before plunging down the drop and into the water below.
This causes a huge wave to be pushed up into the air as the boat reaches the bottom ... and then crash back to earth, landing right back inside the boat and over its passengers. Its fair to say Shipwreck Falls is an absolutely drenching ride.
Especially on hot days there can be long queues for Shipwreck Falls. Visitors keen to cool off but not wanting to wait in line can opt instead to stand on a viewing bridge over the ride - right in the path of the giant wave!
