The Penguin is a villain and ice cool arch-enemy of Batman. What he has to do with a warm summery lookingspinning raft ride I have no idea, but that is what bears his name at Six Flags America.
The Penguin's Blizzard River is a Spinning Rapids Ride manufactured by WhiteWater West, the Canadian waterpark company. Although the ride looks like a brightly coloured waterslide, despite first appearances it is placed not in the Hurricane Harbour water park, but in Gotham City in the dry part of the theme park.
When it was opened in 2003, Blizzard River was the tallest ride of its type in the world at 60ft high. Riders sit in six-seater rafts which are carried to the top on a large conveyor belt lift hill. From this point, which is vaguely themed to an ice house, the rafts are sent spinning down a spiraling 669ft long flume. At the bottom they splash into a water channel and gradually float back to the station.
Blizzard River is a fun diversion on a hot day and sits in a nicely landscaped grass area, but suffers from severely limited capacity which can lead to long wait times.
