Six Flags Magic Mountain holds the world record for having the most rollercoasters in a single theme park. With nineteen to choose from, there is a huge variety on offer for thrill seekers who are attracted to this mecca of adrenaline.
The park opened in 1971 with Gold Rusher, an Arrow mine train which is still present today, but its transition into a rollercoaster mega park really began in 1976 with the opening of Great American Revolution. Now known as The New Revolution, it was the first of the modern generation of steel rollercoasters with a 360° vertical loop.
Over the years, Magic Mountain has continued to add rollercoasters, with highlights including Ninja, a classic Arrow Suspended coaster superbly set on the mountainside; Superman: Escape from Krypton, a Reverse Freefall Coaster from Intamin which is launched up a 400ft tower before falling straight back downwards; and X2, an insane Arrow 4th Dimension rollercoaster.
More recently, the park's wooden rollercoaster, Colossus, which was built in 1978, got the RMC treatment. In 2015 it was reopened as Twisted Colossus, a reimagining of the original coaster with Rocky Mountain Construction's iBox track. This provides for a fast, intense, forceful experience.
