Based on the Batman villain of the same name, Mr Freeze: Reverse Blast is a thrilling rollercoaster at Six Flags St Louis.
The ride is manufactured by Premier Rides and uses their LIM (Linear Induction Motor) technology to launch trains out of the station - backwards - from 0 to 70 miles per hour in 3.8 seconds.
The Mr Freeze trains race through a long tunnel and out into the open air, climbing up one side on a 150ft top hat, twisting upside down before dropping down the other side. Following this comes a long 120 degree overbanked turn, which leads towards a 218ft vertical spike. Trains climb this tower, reaching to near the top (with another set of LIMs giving a helping hand) before gravity takes over and the train freefalls back downwards, racing back through the course in the other direction.
Most shuttle coasters can only operate with a single train, but Mr Freeze uses a clever mechanism in the station, sliding tracks from left to right and allowing one train to load/unload while a second is out on the circuit.
Part of the thrill of Mr Freeze is the Reverse Blast launch through the tunnel, plus the general backwards riding. The climb, boost and eventual freefall down the vertical spike is great fun too, and equally thrilling. It's a top class ride and one of the finest rollercoasters at Six Flags St Louis.
